For Britta Cox, “haircare” meant tons of time wasted washing her hair and waiting forever while it dried. Instead of helping her, Britta felt like her routine was holding her back. She is highly passionate for the sustainable beauty product realm. Tiila spent 7 years at Sephora in charge of product development for makeup collaborations and accessories. Her obsession with sustainability lead her to become the lead R+D for sustainable materials while also being on the sustainability leadership council for the retailer. Being a global brand, Tiila quickly learned that in the USA, there are only 11 banned chemicals in color cosmetics while in the European Union, there are over 1300. Because of this, she learned how to formulate color cosmetics with a very large chemical ban list and how to substitute for cleaner alternatives. Tiila has had a long tenure passion for the organic product realm and has been a vegetarian for over 24 years, and also incorporating a plant based diet. Always bringing natural, organic alternatives into her everyday (including learning how to cook organic food at an organic restaurant while in college) she started to look at natural makeup formulation and just found that none of the offerings could truly compete with the efficacy of conventional beauty. The space lacked choice of color and trend, as well as truly sustainable packaging.  

Plastic makeup componentry is a huge source of pollution globally and Tiila really wanted to create a brand that was ethically-sustainable, beyond the formulation, but in everything that Āthr Beauty creates.

This whole thing started on account of all the beeswax.Burt Shavitz and Roxanne Quimby created Burt’s Bees in the early 1980s. In their former lives, Burt worked as a photojournalist in Manhattan, and Roxanne was an artist living in San Francisco. Each left behind the harried pace of city life to seek—and eventually find—freedom in the remote, pristine wilderness of Maine.

Burt settled into a new life as the local “bee man” after finding a stray beehive and learning how to eke out a living selling honey. One day, Burt pulled over for a hitchhiking Roxanne in his schoolbus-yellow pickup truck, and the two hit it off. Burt was a resourceful guy; he’d been stowing away the surplus beeswax from his honey business, knowing it might eventually come in handy. Burt taught Roxanne about his bees, and she found a book of recipes which they used to turn their waxy bounty into things like candles (in 1984) and lip balm (in 1991—that one turned out to be a keeper).

Burt and Roxanne valued the simple life, and knew the importance and personal worth of staying connected to nature. Their lifestyle was low-impact, and socially and environmentally conscious. As back-to-basics, D-I-Y types, they were ahead of their time—their approach is as compelling now as ever.

Roxanne used to say that since we take from nature, we must respect and preserve it. Today, we follow in her and Burt’s footsteps by using the best ingredients from nature, and in turn respecting nature so we can all live well.

It was his favorite place to be; he spent his last years on that land. After his passing, the cabin was moved from Maine to our Durham headquarters, so visitors can see just how freeing a downsized life can be.

Growing up in Korea, our co-founder Narae saw first-hand the pride that Korean men took in their self-care. It was more than a routine—it was a way of life, an expression of self-worth, self-love and enjoyment. And why shouldn’t it be? It feels good to look good.

After years working in the Korean skincare industry, bringing the best ingredients and most innovative formulas to men across Asia, Narae decided to come to the United States to attend Wharton Business School. Here, she met her roommate Jacqueline (the second half of the Cardon puzzle), an expert in the retail startup space.

From there, it was history. Once this skincare queen and startup savant got to talking, they noticed that interest in men’s self-care was beginning to gain momentum in the States—but the high-quality, yet affordable options that were so popular in Korea—were seriously lacking. 

Jacqueline and Narae ran a focus group out of their apartment, featuring pizza, beer and a handful of guys. The topic: skincare. They were amazed and inspired by how their male classmates opened up about the topic when given a chance.

The dynamic duo saw an opportunity to change the outdated social norms around masculinity and self-care. Cardon’s mission was clear from the beginning: to provide a simple shopping experience for men to get premium skincare at an approachable price tag while acting as an oasis in the desert; a go-to resource for honest, accurate information about men’s self-care.

Francesco Clark was 24 years old with a promising career at Harper’s Bazaar when his entire world was turned upside-down. On June 1, 2002, Francesco dove headfirst into a swimming pool and crashed into the bottom. He became paralyzed from the neck down. Surgeons told his parents, “he will never breathe, talk or move his arms (on his own) - and forget about his legs.”

Hi, It’s Eva! My skin struggle lasted for years, while I desperately tried all types of products to see what would help me. I tried everything from harsh products made to attack, strip and chemically obliterate my skin surface, which just left me dry and irritated, to “miracle” holistic products that just made me oily and breakout prone. After a seemingly never ending cycle, I was done fighting with my skin. I wanted to heal my skin, not attack it.

We began by turning things we loved into scented stories of cowboys, open terrain, Russian novel characters, folk songs and packing them into stamped boxes in D.S.’s Bushwick apartment. These roots of detail and human hands are still strong today.

ALL OF OUR CREATIVE COMES FROM WITHIN. That means D.S. is really the perfumer. He taught himself how to make perfume by immersing himself in all things fragrant. He is passionate about translating musical and literary spaces into scent. Each fragrance is conceived and constructed by D.S. with no middleman or interpretation from an outside perfumer.

KAVI (A.K.A. DURGA) DESIGNS EVERYTHING. She approaches her work like an architect–her trade by training. Thinking in angles, light, shadow, and texture, Kavi seeks clarity in form and function. She builds buildings for our scents, cities for our universe.

WE TAKE OUR WORK SERIOUSLY, but not too seriously. If you can’t have fun doing what you dig, what’s the point?

OUR PACKAGE IS A PIECE. The opening establishes the relationship between user and perfume. Our boxes have been engineered to be foam-free, recyclable paper, and our shipping materials are biodegradable. The formulas are 100% vegan.

I’m Ben, the founder of Disco. I’ve always taken good care of my skin, but until I created Disco, it felt like an endless journey of trial and error with brands that never spoke to me. Despite having a good idea of which products I should be using, my needs were not being met by a male-oriented brand that was using ingredients and regimens designed for someone like me. Like many guys, I was also confused about the exact benefits of ingredients and what order I should use my products. On top of that, I was disappointed by the lack of ingredient transparency and sub par ethical practices followed by many brands.

15 years ago, when I began as a dermatologist, I noticed reactions to the ointments doctors recommended to help heal skin like Aquaphor, Neosporin and triple antibiotic ointments.

I sourced the market for something I could recommend as safe and effective for inflamed, irritated or healing skin. When I couldn't find it I decided to make it.

After 3 years of developing my formula, I knew I had something special but it took 100s of phone calls to find a manufacturer in the US who would accommodate my selective ingredients and packaging requirements.

I then made tens of thousands of Healing Balms and had them delivered to my house with no idea of how I was going to break into the beauty industry.

Luckily a beauty veteran, Michelle Olsen, tried the Healing Balm, fell in love, and agreed to help.

Together, with a small but mighty team, we created a line of elevated everyday essentials formulated to provide our skin what it needs to be and stay healthy and beautiful, in sustainable packaging.

Demand continues to grow and Doctor Rogers RESTORE is now stocked at major retailers, has won multiple awards and has been featured in every major beauty and lifestyle magazine.

A note from our co-founder, Christen Dominique:
I have always loved helping people look and feel beautiful.

The first time I experienced the transformative power of makeup was after applying my mom’s yellow corrector to cover up my dark circles, my biggest insecurity, at age 14. When I saw them disappear, it felt like I was seeing the real me for the first time, and I could finally be comfortable in my own skin.


With my insecurity behind me, I wasn’t afraid of speaking up, putting myself out there, and making new friends. Soon, the instant confidence boost didn’t just change how I saw myself. Other people noticed too.

As I experimented and played around with makeup, girls at school started asking me for help with theirs. I became known as the locker room makeup artist and would often have a long line of classmates waiting to get made over. Seeing how happy and beautiful they felt—that feeling that I still can’t even put into words—after I did their makeup was the best feeling ever. And so my love of artistry was born.


The artistry continued after high school, doing freelance makeup for weddings, photo shoots, quinceañeras, and many other local events. I learned from YouTube and made a few of my own videos here and there too. But as the years passed, real life kicked in. I was in school full time, working at an insurance company, a young mom to my amazing son, married, had a house to take care of, basically a lot going on. As many working moms have experienced, I felt like I was pulled in a million different directions, never able to give one area the time, attention, or love that they deserved. So I told my clients that I had made a heartbreaking decision: I had to let makeup go.

They were sad for me, knowing how much I loved artistry, and suggested that I create some new YouTube videos. That way I could stay connected to them, teach them makeup techniques, and still have makeup be a part of my life.


So I did. And I started to love creating content, this whole new outlet for expressing my creativity. After about a year of consistently filming tutorials, people started to pay attention. Then, I got an opportunity to move to LA and create YouTube videos full time. Thanks to the support of my husband, I took a risk and moved my family from Texas to Los Angeles. That’s when my life really changed.

Once I got to LA, where I had access to studios, lighting, and owned being myself on camera, my videos really took off. I felt lucky to be able to impact others lives, helping them tap into their inner beauty, while sharing techniques that made them feel beautiful on the outside too.


After years of filming beauty content, I felt empowered to take my journey one step further. I wanted to create a brand that put the transformative power of makeup in your hands. I thought back to my freelance days, remembering the need for products that could be multi-purposed. I factored in the most helpful pan sizes, the shades and formulas that were missing from the current market, and even the packaging was designed to bring an experience to life, and make you feel something. I wanted you to have access to the most prestige, innovative products without breaking the bank. With lots of time, research, and even more love, Dominique Cosmetics was born.

If you’d have told me in high school that I’d one day be the CEO and Creative Director of my own makeup brand, Dominique Cosmetics, I’d probably have thought you were crazy. This is truly mine and my family’s dream come true—our co-founder and president is actually my husband. (Love you, Cesar!) The legacy of Erno Laszlo may be rooted in the groundbreaking skincare discoveries of Dr. Laszlo, but behind his life changing products it has always been about the patient. From Dr. Laszlo’s first breakthrough, finding a cure for a Princess’ acne, to his work with the most famous faces in Hollywood, to our modern beauty rituals adored by fans all over the world, Erno Laszlo has always celebrated bold personalities, empowering us all to show our true glow.
Dr. Erno Laszlo was a master of medicine who pioneered many innovative products and introduced specific formulations to treat various skin conditions. A man of firsts, the doctor established the concept of a “ritual” skincare routine with prescriptions for his clients and introduced cleansing oils and bars as the double cleanse we know today.
He opened his first institute in Budapest in 1927, complete with a lab for creating personalized formulations and developing bespoke treatments, like the custom Phormula 3-1 made to heal the acute acne of Princess Stephanie of Hungary.
Dr. Laszlo moved to New York and opened the first institute there in 1939 at 677 Fifth Avenue. Early clients included Katharine Hepburn and Greta Garbo. The doctor became a trusted skincare expert for many of the world’s most famous faces.

Esker was launched in 2018 by Shannon Davenport. After a decade of working in New York City as a trend forecaster, where she helped major corporate brands shape their identities based on her research across beauty, design, art, and consumer trends, she decided to launch Esker as a way to act on her own ideas and build the brand she wanted to see in the world. She knew she wanted to create a brand with integrity and honesty as its cornerstones, and to make clean, safe products that nourish the body and elevate the way we care for it.



As she discovered the benefits of plant-based beauty and bodycare, she fell in love. She enrolled at the New York Institute of Aromatherapy where she received her certification in aromatherapy and became a NAHA Aromatherapy Advocate. She soon realized that the beauty industry didn’t seem to be taking the clean movement seriously, and that bodycare was consistently an afterthought. Around the same time, she became pregnant with her first child and became even more aware of her body and its need for a product that was safe to use while pregnant, filler-free, non-greasy, and--most importantly-- relied on the power of plants to nourish skin. 


Esker was born right around the same time as Shannon's little one, and she introduced the line with three custom-crafted body oil formulas aimed to celebrate the diversity and power of essential oils, and to function as a necessary step in any body care ritual. She pulled from a versatile range of plants to create a restorative, clarifying, and firming oil, each one carefully formulated with responsibly-sourced ingredients to nourish skin from head to toe.

ESW Beauty is a clean beauty skincare brand that creates products inspired by healthy living.

Our founder, Elina Sofia Wang, struggled with stomach ulcers for many years and in early 2018, she started to live a cleaner lifestyle by eating healthier, drinking raw juices, and joining yoga and barre classes. She also started to use clean beauty products but found that there was no sheet mask line on the market that not only had non-toxic formulas but also looked good on the bathroom counter top. Since she had 5+ years of experience in the beauty industry, she decided to create her own products that had creative branding and would not compromise on safety and efficacy.

We’ve made a bold commitment to reduce plastic waste and save the planet, purchasing 64 million grams of post-consumer plastic in our first year (and we're just getting started). This is how we’re crafting our packaging from 95% recycled plastic. Even the boxes you receive with a new FEKKAI order are 100% recyclable, including the packing material inside.
