In short LRV = Light Reflectance Value, meaning how much light is the paint going to reflect 0 = black 100 = white It is important to know a paints LRV when selecting colors in your home: A paint with a high LRV will wash out with too much light which I why I won t recommend a high LRV color on the exterior of a home. On the contrary a color with a medium LRV below 60ish is going to present itself with a lot of depth on the exterior of a home When choosing whites and pairing colors this is also important: If you are looking for a bright and airy color you are going to want to get above 82 or 83. If you’re going for a completely moody vibe you will want to be below that 20 range

Let s look at 4 popular sherwinwilliams paint colors: SW Snowbound SW Greek Villa SW Alabaster SW City Loft When choosing a white, first take a very neutral bright white (SW Extra White is one of their most neutral and bright whites) and compare it to the color you are looking at. This will pull the undertones and you will be able to see how the color changes. Always remember it s best to test paint on each wall and look at it in different lighting.
